Show Notes

In the six months between when Louisville police shot  and killed Breonna Taylor, and when a Grand Jury announced none of the  officers involved would face charges for her death, citizens of  Louisville have protested without interruption. In the face of  escalating violence from both police and fellow citizens, the  spontaneous, chaotic actions of early summer are now an organized,  militant occupation of space in the heart of downtown. Jefferson Square  Park, in the center of the barricade zone, has been transformed into a  living memorial to Taylor, and renamed Injustice Square Park.

Alex  Harrison reports from the streets of Louisville on how the protest  evolved to become militant, and why it had more to do with safety than  strategy. Photo credit: Linus Hoeller.
