Speaker 1 00:02:17 It's unfortunate then that it was all a lie in 2015, the wall street journals, John on carro published the article. That would be the beginning of the end of Theno. Hot startup fairness has struggled with its blood test technology unraveled. The elaborate series of lies at homes and her partner in crime sunny Bawan had spun in order to get the nose backed by an incredibly strong board and $700 million worth of investments. The article quoted whistleblowers from the company who exposed that the revolutionary technology that Theno was using did not work. The company was deleting any research that showed the grave inaccuracies of their tests and would water down their blood samples to run them through old blood testing machines, leading to several false test results. One of the key whistle blowers in this case, a freshly out of college, Erica Chung spoke out against the company, despite their many threats to Sue her.
Speaker 3 00:03:15 We would be sitting in a lab meeting, reviewing data to firm, whether the technology worked or not, and we'd get data sets like this. And someone would say to me, well, let's get rid of the outlier and see how that affects the accuracy rate.

The absurdity of it all makes for great television today. Holmes is facing prison time. She was found guilty of at least four charges of fraud in January of 2022, though her sentencing date has not yet been determined. The consequ hunts of her actions and the downfall of Theranos not only led to the misdiagnose of several people who used her tests across the country, but also furthered the misogynistic startup culture, rebuilding barriers that in 2013, everyone thought homes had torn down for business women.
